Dear New Faculty Member:
Welcome to Georgetown University! Through our Office of Faculty and Academic Affairs (OFAA) we have many resources, programs, and opportunities to support your faculty position, and to help you to become accomplished, productive, and successful in your chosen areas of endeavor, including teaching, research, service, and clinical care.
As noted on our home page, the OFAA presents an annual new faculty orientation session, works with Department Chairs and the Committee on Appointments and Promotions on issues related to faculty appointment and advancement, administers a faculty mentoring program, oversees the faculty evaluation process, develops programs and workshops, and coordinates and disseminates information about resources and opportunities to support the professional development of faculty members and postdoctoral trainees in the School of Medicine.
Of particular interest to new faculty is our Faculty Mentoring Program, in which senior faculty members (Mentors) pass on and junior faculty members (Mentees) acquire the professional skills and attitudes that contribute to personal, institutional, and career success. New junior faculty members are automatically enrolled in this program, which promotes the development of self-confidence and professional achievement, and which enhances institutional stability and continuity. A new phase of this program is currently underway.
Please visit our web pages and familiarize yourself with the various activities and programs. While it is our goal to support you in all ways possible, we strongly encourage you to take charge of your own professional development at Georgetown. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or comments about our Office and programs, and we look forward to working with you as you become an integral part of our faculty and family at the Medical School.
