Teaching Essentials for Clinical Faculty (TECF)

The goal of the Teaching Essentials for Clinical Faculty program is to foster teaching skills and knowledge development among the junior clinical faculty with mentorship from senior faculty of Medstar Georgetown University Hospital and Washington Hospital Center.

Led by Dr. Jeffrey Love, Professor of Emergency Medicine, and Dr. Priscilla Furth, Associate Dean for Faculty Development, this program runs throughout the academic year starting in September and ending in April/May.  The program is open to all junior clinical faculty in the Georgetown University Hospital or Washington Hospital Center area.  The total time commitment per month is approximately three hours.  

The program covers important topics through massive open online courses (MOOC), experiential learning, and small group discussion:

  • Bedside Feedback
  • Entrustment and Autonomy
  • Orienting Your Learner
  • Debriefing
  • RIME or Direct Observation
  • Evidenced Based Teaching
