Step 3: Movement from Tenure Line to Educator Line

A Tenure-line member of the faculty may request appointment to the Educator line at any time before the individual has exhausted the probationary period and failed to achieve tenure on the tenure line pursuant to the Faculty Handbook. Such requests follow the same procedures as if they were initial appointments. After reviewing this page completely, please go to the Educator Line appointment and promotion page.

Except in very unusual circumstances, a Tenure line faculty member who is appointed to the Educator line will likely not be eligible for reappointment to the Tenure line. However, if such a reappointment does occur, previous time in the Tenure line normally will not be counted towards tenure eligibility. Consideration for appointment to an educator line rank will be on the basis of total qualifications.
