School of Nursing Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure (APT) Committee
The purpose of the SON APT Committee is to assess, support, and maintain the quality of the faculty of the School through appointment, promotion and tenure review and recommendation processes.
The responsibilities of the Committee are to:
- Advise the Dean of the School of Nursing on cases for faculty appointment, rank, promotion and tenure for all faculty in the School.
- Periodically, in consultation with the appropriate directors, review the progress of tenure-line faculty and non-tenure-line faculty who seek promotion.
- Provide guidance in accordance with the GUSON mission, vision and values to faculty in preparing their portfolios for promotion or tenure.
- Review, and if necessary revise, appointment, rank and tenure procedures for recommendation to the GUSON Executive Faculty as needed.
- Ensure appropriateness of process and standards for selection of candidates to determine appropriate initial rank.
- Provide provisional recommendation to the hiring individual on proposed rank for a candidate before an offer is made. Once a candidate is hired, they must go through the initial APT appointment process within 3 months of hire.
You can learn more about the review process, and tips for your application in the APT Manual. Please also be sure to review the APT deadlines and meeting schedule. You can also find them on “Step 3” of any line/rank page when going through the 1-2-3 steps in the previous page.
A faculty member should never attempt to contact any APT members regarding the status of their application. If you have any questions regarding your application, please speak with your unit leader or administrator.
