Speed Grant Review

The Speed Grant Review is for ideas/proposals that are farther along in the grant development process. This service is available for investigators who are seeking specific feedback on a specific portion of their grant submission.

Speed Grant Reviews are ideal when there are at least 2-3 months ahead of first submission OR if response to reviewers or resubmission, at least a few (~3-4) weeks before the resubmission due date.

For the Speed Grant Review, the investigator must have a specific document(s) for the reviewers to provide feedback (e.g. specific AIMs page, response to reviewers, data/charts, etc.). If you have several portions of a grant to review, we recommend considering the Mock Study Section instead. The Speed Grant Review is best for those seeking specific feedback on the following:

  • Specific AIMs page
  • Response to Reviewers/Introduction to a Resubmission
  • Specific Charts/Data in the research
  • Specific portion(s) of grant submission

If you have several portions of a grant to review, we recommend considering the Mock Study Section instead.

Meeting Structure

The Speed Grant Review meetings includes one 30 minute meeting with each assigned reviewer (up to three reviewers). These meetings are 1:1 to allow for personalized and individual feedback. Once your request is submitted, a member of the Grant Development Subcommittee will connect you with 2-3 reviewers, and you may work with the reviewers to schedule mutually beneficial times to meet with each of them.

The 1:1 meetings will be used for you to review the specific portions of your grant that you are hoping to discuss.

Request

Please complete this request form for a Speed Grant Review. Once your request is submitted, you will receive a response from a member of the Grant Development Subcommittee within 3 business days. The Grant Development Subcommittee member will connect you with the 2-3 experts based on your grant development needs.

Serving as a Reviewer

If you agree to serve as a reviewer for the Speed Grant Review, please register as a reviewer. Registering is for the purposes of tracking all the reviewers for the entire academic year as the Grant Development Subcommittee coordinates recognition from leadership for your services at the end of each academic year.

As a reviewer for the Speed Grant Review, please review any documents sent to you by the requester/PI (should be sent at least 2 business days ahead of the meeting). During the discussion, please share your thoughts and ideas in a constructive and respectful manner, value listening to PI’s responses, be mindful of the stage of development of the grant, and stay focused on the specific questions asked by the requester/PI.

Preparation for your Meeting

Once the Grant Development Subcommittee member connects you (the “Requester”) with the experts, the Requester is responsible for:

  • Scheduling mutually beneficial 30 minute meetings with the experts including sending calendar invites and adding zoom link/location
  • Sending materials and questions to the experts that the Requester plans to review during the meeting at least 2 business days ahead of the meeting
  • Leading the discussion and topics for the 30 minute meetings with each of the reviewers

If you are having any issues scheduling time with the experts in the time needed, please contact the Grant Development Subcommittee member that was initially assisting in coordination and ofaa@georgetown.edu.

Ahead of the meeting, please prepare the specific questions that you would like to discuss with the reviewers; the questions could vary with each reviewer depending on the reviewer’s expertise, or they could be the same. You, as the requester, will be responsible for leading the discussion. Please make sure to be mindful of the 30 minute time-frame.
